5 Quick tips to Feel Motivated

There are times throughout seasons in my life where I get to a place where I am confused and don’t know what direction I want to go. In midst of being confused, I started looking at what other others are doing and I think about doing the same thing. In trying to do what others are doing, I completely lost the desire and goals I have for myself. I become lost and unfocused.

Once I realize that I am on this phase I came to the realization that each person has their own desires, wants, and loves. When we stop focusing on those things and let our eyes wander we become unmotivated, have thoughts of quitting, and possibly get lost for a while.

So here I am admitting that I have had times where I have thought “I don’t want to blog” to “I have all kinds of ideas” to “I am not good at doing this” to “I was overthinking everything”. Instead, I needed to focus and do what I do best by writing and everything else will fall into place.

If you find yourself in a place where you are questioning things like:

Do I want to finish my degree? Do I want to stay in this job? Do I want to be in this relationship? Should I pursue that job or that friendship? Should I follow my dreams and desires? Do I want to start writing that blog or that book? Should I say Yes to starting that podcast or do that job overseas?

The list can go on, but I want you to know that it’s okay to have a moment where you are confused and lost. Though at some point, you need to sit down and think through your feelings and come to a place of peace and make that decision with the Lord.

The following are steps you can take to clear out your mind so you can start making decisions.

1. Talk about your confusion. Don’t allow shame and guilt trap you in a place of confusion. There is freedom in sharing (with others, yourself, and most importantly our good good Father). You’re not alone in your confusion and doubt. Wherever you’re struggling with, the Lord is right there with you.

2. Sit down and plan your week with Jesus. Having a clear direction for the week helps you to be less confused and stressed. Play your favorite song, grab your favorite journal & pen and write down some goals and ideas for the week. Tell Jesus about your goals, he is excited to meet with you.

3. Talk to your friends about your life. Share the dreams that you have and the fears that are holding you back. The friends you share with make sure they are the type who would encourage, push, and check on you to make sure you are doing okay and making progress in your plans. Accountability is key and it matters!

4. Be intentional with your emotions and feelings. Learn to process your emotions and feelings in a healthy way. Don’t avoid them, they are not going to work out by themselves.

5. Trust in the dreams and desires the Lord has called you into. It’s not by mistake that you have the dreams that you have. If you are wondering whether it is your dreams but not the Lords dreams then ASK HIM. Dreams and goals are some of the sweetest things to use to develop an even deeper relationship with God. Lean in and dig deep.

I hope this encourages you to get out of the state of being confused to a state of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward. There is power in taking action instead of wishing for those easy-going seasons.

With grace and love, – Winnie:)

  1. I love your post Winnie, and i’ts so true about the dangers we can find ourselves in when we start to copy others instead of bringing what’s inside us to life.We indeed are all unique and have been given different gifts and talents to share. I’m happy you found your motivation and step back into what you know is for you. There are many that need what you have to share. keep writing.

  2. I’ve found myself at this juncture so many times… Your point, “Trust in the dreams and desires the Lord has called you into. It’s not by mistake.” is so valid.

Yes, we all need to keep checking in with our loving Heavenly Father to be sure we’re still true to His plan, but also be sure that He makes no mistakes.

There’s a line in an old hymn that haunts me: “When reason’s rays deceptive shine,
His counsel would I yet fulfill.” We can talk ourselves out of and into so much – all with the desire to be reasonable. Practical. But what God asks may not look reasonable…

Yes. One step in front of another. Always asking the One who has all the answers! 😉 Thank you for the encouragement Winnie!

  4. Great advice, Winnie! I especially like the one about facing your emotions and thoughts and being completely honest with God. For a long time, my temptation has been to run away from my negative feelings and conflicting emotions, but I found that when I am able to be honest with how I am feeling with God and others, I feel more motivated to act and also freer in my life.

  5. Winnie!

Just read the blog. I’m in the same boat with my blog. I’ve been so busy worry about what others are doing with their blog (even yours, admittedly) that I’ve gotten to the point where I almost quit blogging a few weeks ago.

Thank you for writing this. It just reaffirmed what I was told me different times this week.

  6. Excellent advice! It is so easy to get caught up in the comparison trap. Comparison really is the thief of joy! I appreciate how you were able to take a step back from it and refocus your priorities. You’ve got some great tips on changing focus to the things that matter.

  7. I love the last statement of this article “There is power in taking action instead of wishing for those different times/seasons.” I spend too much time thinking and wishing and this thought has gotten me going. Thank you!

  8. This post is so good and a great motivation. I totally agree with you that it’s ok to feel lost or unmotivated but you can’t stay there. At some point in time, you need to step back, reevaluate what’s going on and decide what needs to be done.

  9. I love this post Winnie! I can totally relate! It’s so easy to look at everyone on social media who seems to have it all together and start to feel down on yourself. Lately I’m learning to look to God more and ask him what I am suppose to be doing instead. It’s when I don’t that I get in trouble. Keep writing friend!

    1. My goodness its beautiful that you can relate to this. My encouragement to you is to focus on your why. Why did you start what you started and go from there. Looking on what others are doing and getting down on ourselves is totally a distraction.
